Hurstbridge Traders Association along with Nillumbik Shire Council and sponsor Hurstbridge Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, launched a Plastic Bag Free campaign in March 2007. In 2008, Hurstbridge was proud to be the first town in Melbourne to go plastic carry bag free.

The Hurstbridge Traders Association continues to support plastic carry bag free shopping, and aims to educate shoppers in Hurstbridge about alternative to plastic carry bags.
